I can't stop sneezing today. They are ghastly sneezes look like small convulsions.
People here must think I'm really weird.
this morning, in between my alarm's snooze but, I contemplated and rejected the idea of getting out of bed to take a shower. Half asleep, it seemed really appropriate that I shouldn't wash my hair because it was "casual day." by the time I actually got out of bed, I regretted this decision but it was too late to do anything about it.
I wonder if they notice the girl with the greasy hair convulsing in suite 202.
My boss left some candy corn on a table nearby. People have been stopping in all day. My favorite is Sam:
There is this man Sam I'm not sure what part of the world he is from but he speaks perfect English(that's how you know he is foreign, it's so perfect it came out of a book) He said very clearly: "Is this to eat?"
I said "Sure, Sam, help yourself" and he said
"No, I mean, this is edible?"
Sam had never seen a candy corn before.
"They look like teeth!" he said. He took one cautiously. Sam is cautious about most things. You can see this in how there are never typos in any of his emails and they are always written in very, very complete sentences. He seems regimented, and not very indulgent.
"You'll want more than one" I said, but thought about how funny it would be to see Sam having more than one piece of Candy. He is the one piece of candy kind of guy. One drink. One piece of Candy. Regimented, refined but not indulgent.
But, I like that I see Sam very often now. He dips his hand into the "BOO!" dish giggling and smiling at me while I nod at him, encouragingly.
I told this woman Michele today: you know, I said (Michele always tilts her head to the side when you start of a story with "you know..", she is type of person to use the phrase "curiously,..." A lot)
"You know, Sam has never had candy corn, before."
"Oh really?"
"I guess it's just an American phenomenon." Michele nodded when I said this. She nods a lot. She also speaks slowly, with wisdom. As she left she was both nodding and shaking her head as if to say: I can't believe it, but yes it's true. And, as if they were parting words that would leave me with some better understanding of the world she said:
"Just like circus peanuts."
and then she left the room.
