they even say its supposed to go up to almost 50 degrees this weekend! whaaa? But all the same, I decided today that I would tell you this story:
my brother had a speech problem when he was little...It was an odd one, when words began with an S, the S would end up at the end of the word. My mom remembers when he was three and shouting "look mom it's nosin' out it's nosin' out!"
He also would call stop signs "tops igns"....But the cutest thing of all is that he called our good ol' Campbell's soup "oops" -- a bowl of "oops" what could be cuter?
Oh the crabs from yesterday? They went suprisingly well. I couldn't believe with what fervor Sarah sucked them down. It was great to hear little legs snap and know Sarah was really enjoying herself. She took a picture before hand with her Polaroid camera before and after to see if she looked any different, to see if she was now a "meat-eater" and it was visible on her skin. We went to the bar later, and got to meet up with H from college. She looked pretty as ever with her floppy hat and wide, wide smile. We talked for a long time about the before and after photos, and related it to loosing our virginity and how we felt different the next day. H still thought we were talking about eating crabs for the first time and it took her a while to catch on. But when she did we all talked about crying the next day, or later that night, and all for different reasons, relief, fear, sadness, loss. Those are the kind of conversations that just sort of happen when I'm around S and H, these heartbreaking, truthful answers to questions we never thought to ask before. We talked about making a time capsule and burying it behind some tree, somewhere on the campus of the gooch.
But what would we put inside?

This post was upers!
I just dropped by to say, "Happy New Year!!" Over the past few months I've really enjoyed reading your blog. I can not think of a single post I did not enjoy reading. Keep Writing!!!
PS- Did your brother ever get over the speach impediment? I'm starting to picture a big guy walking around still saying ooops instead of soup.
wow, thank you gail. that's so nice.
no, my brother ended up being just fine later. It was during those years where he was switching between using his left and right hand (do you think that had anything to do with it?) He ended up being a very verbal guy, he was a newspaper editor and everything! Imagine if I told the guys at The Spirit that he used to say "oops" instead of soup.
