last night, was the first night of Hanukkah and today is sarah's birthday. I'm excited about both of these things.
Sarah and I met in school and molded the formative moments of our friendship hiding behind a dumpster to sneak a cigarette. She and I were what we called "secret smokers" she showed me all the best spots on campus, behind the bush next to the chapel, and her own little wall. If you knock on her door and wake her from sleeping, she lie right to your face and tell you she wasn't. Her room is always kept sparse and clean. She likes poloriods and a well-worn book. Sarah gives things away as to not have too much of anything so she can take whatever she has with her, wherever she might go. Her parents for a long part of her life, participated in voluntary poverty as to use/have/want no more than they needed. They bake bread in their house and the scent of sourdough puckers up into the eaves of every room. She calls her father Phil, he calls her to say he might be arrested next week for a protest at congress. She likes bob Dylan and loud, hop-up-and-down rock and roll. Sarah participates in adventures like hiking and living far off in the woods. She cuts her t-shirts so her smooth shoulders show but pushes her shy hands far down in her pockets as she stands. Her face gets red and blushy when you talk about her, she shakes her hair into her eyes. Right now, I bet, she is shaking her hair into her eyes.
last night,
I was really excited and wanted to be home by 8 so I could cuddle up with a movie and the big guy. You might have heard this before, but I'll say it again, in case it didn't sink in: Elf is really funny. Festive and funny.
yesterday at work, it was imperative that I finished making my bosses and myself into reindeer for our decorating competition. They made it first priority. I'll keep me as a reindeer as my photo here until I find something more festive for the season.
