Last night I had a dream where I was witnessing all of these amazing things, and in my dream I thought that I have to remember to blog about this tomorrow, because no one would believe all of this stuff really happened. Of course, when I woke up and was brushing my teeth, I realized it didn't actually happen, I was dreaming. Directly after that I was gargling and swayed a little, still dizzy from sleeping and leaned over to spit when I hit my head really hard on the faucet. No one was there to see me make an ass of myself, so I'm repeating it here for you to enjoy.
Tutoring last night was so much better than I could have hoped! My tutee brought in a homework assignment! It was an odd assignment, like most of them I've seen so far are, where I can't really tell if it's for Math or English and Poster making is involved. It seems like every class they have they have to make a poster with people's names floating all around it. This poster was of the people my tutee knew who have died. Then she had to write down who they were to her, how they passed on and how old they'd be today. She told me how her 4 year old sister, her half sister, got hit by a car. She told me the story about how the fourteen year old girl who babysat her when she was seven got beat to death. "She was a black girl," she said. These stories went on for a long time
"And his body got dragged from you know where the pizza shop is? All the way down to the SPCA."
"She was a healthy girl, but she got one little cold died that summer. She was only 21."
"These two were twins and they were in a car crash in Nevada"
"My maw (great-grandmother) died of a stroke, but I'm just gonna say old age, 'cause it was old age."
"Crib death."
She talked to me for a long time and opened up a little bit. Maybe it's because I bought her off.
I made her a journal at work, bound it and but her name on it. On the bottom of the first seven pages I gave her ideas on stories or drawings to put inside. She says she liked it (when I say she said she liked it, I had to ask her a couple of times and finally she said yes) and promised to bring it back, but I'll be surprised if I ever see it again.
Overall though, tutoring this Wednesday was much better than other Wednesdays.
Afterwards Brian and Emma and I met up with another Baltimore blogger and his lovely wife. They both were so nice! (and I do remember their names, but wasn't sure If they wanted me to post them here or not, so I didn't, always better not to, right?)Even the famous Jason Dove made an appearance.
Afterwards me and the big guy watched Sledge Hammer.

It was a lot of fun meeting y'all. I feel more optimistic about the neighborhood youth knowing that you guys are tutoring them. I'm going to have to drive down to The Talking Head during the daytime so I'll be able to find it at night next month.
