after the party's the hotel lobby

Yesterday I got the chance to go to Baltimore's African American Heritage Festival. Yeah, if you noticed, I'm not African American. It must have been funny to see this group of white kids drinking those terrible, yet enormous, sour apple zimas and relaxing on the grass while Mint Condition played. The festival was amazing and full of so many people, I heard some number which was far bigger than I could picture or remember - they announced that it's the largest cultural festival on the east coast. Lauren Hill was supposed to play there yesterday, but she backed out. In the end it was a $1 donation to see a lot of great music - Doug E. Fresh? How could I turn it down? It's still happening today if your interested. All weekend. I suggest the terrible and enormous zimas and also the $2 french fries, but with old bay, don't forget the old bay. oh and lastly if you're tall, you should put a kid on your shoulders like terry's friend gomez is doing here - he doesn't have to be your kid at all. gomez just met this one.

oh and mayor o'malley totally got booed by everyone on the crowd when he came out.

After that was this top secret party that I wasn't previously allowed to tell anyone about - okay it was only relatively top secret (or really not at all) because there were 400 people on the invitee list. And it seemed like they were all there last night because it was extremely hot and the beer line was really long. Dancing happened. bow n arrow and height performed - who were so much more awesome than I remember them being. When did they get to be so good? Oh and the highlight, of course was K-Swift, the famous Baltimore dj - come on, you've heard her on 92Q.

I ended up talking to a lot of people I feel like I haven't seen in a really, really long time instead of doing much dancing. Is it funny though, that all day I wasn't that into dancing? When I woke up in the morning, I stubbed my toe really hard and then it turned purple and swelled. All day I sort of hobbled around on it and complained about it to anyone who would listen, and pointed down so they could look at all of my dirty toes (flip flops at a festival, this was a bad idea.) I knew I was being a baby when people couldn't tell which toe it was, that meant it looked like all of the others not swollen and not broken. Apparently, I'm totally a baby.

oh - we totally haven't talked in so long, I have so much to tell you: My friend Helena is here!! She studies viola in Glasgow and is now in Baltimore giggling so hard she starts crying and saying all sorts of ridiculous, fun things. She keeps announcing that she loves Baltimore and she never wants to leave. It might have been the enormous zimas, but I also think it's the truth.

Here is a short of list of other matters of importance. I'm taking a little road trip by myself tomorrow and won't be back until the fourth of July. I think I want to spend the fourth of July in Baltimore though. Oh these are the great things about a road trip by yourself, you can decide them along the way. Also, driving you're new car for hours and hours. Yeah, yeah, other new things- do you remember that I had this boss who never did her job and then fired me? Well, I got a call on Friday telling me that they let her go! Now they want me back and they want her gone - could anything work out better than that? And lastly, last night I had a dream that the cops were going to bust a party at my house and I was running away and hiding, and sweating and scared like everyone at the party, until I found someone and said "wait, this is weird, the cops can't arrest me for drinking in my own house. Why was I scared?" the person in my dream tried to convince me otherwise, in order to keep the drama unfolding and maintain the illusion of the dream - that imaginary character of mine was so clever but don't worry folks, I didn't fall for it.

is it possible that I'm stranger than ever? Is it embarrassing yet?

billiards and beer

in recent adventures I've been living the life of a bachelor. Which, is of course only by my rough interpretation of what exactly that means to me, waking up late, walking around in my underwear all day, forgetting to shave, over-eating junk food and drinking copious amounts of alcohol. A friend of mine pointed out that this might not be imitating a bachelor, but also could be defined as slowly killing myself. The 3am nachos, too? The discovery of peanut butter spread across oreo cookies for breakfast? Day dreaming about Lindsay Lohan? Could this all be so bad? Apparently though, day-dreaming about Lindsay Lohan is okay - I mean, if you are watching TV like me all day you have seen about 600 interviews promoting Herbie Fully Loaded. It's only natural.

I thought it would go on like this forever I was just settled into the idea of freely picking my nose - now what do I do? A job? It won't be for sometime (which is probably a good thing, my liver needs to recoup, and hopefully my jaundice eyes will be white again by the time I go back.) But, still, I was just getting used to this, I was just now getting good at it. I was even thinking about getting a dog, yeah, a little scruffy mutt who scratches himself a lot. I was even thinking that I should scratch more too. Yes, of course, you know this is a lie if you know me. I hate pets of all sorts, but the scratching part - that's still fairly accurate.

anyway the point is, I like that a job just sort of came to me, but I was just getting good at this whole stereotype of a bachelor's lifestyle. I mean, come on! I was just getting good at playing pool - I'm not going to have anytime to practice when I'm sober.

been a while, right? right.t

so last week I got a call from our favorite non-profit and it seems like they are working on creating me a job. A custom made, tailored to fit Jessica job. Hell -- job, promotion. The weirdest, most awkward promotion in recent history. but still - strange. It's funny. The job hunt for me recently has really become drinking beer but getting to bed in time to try to wake up to see Ellen come on TV at 11, and now they're knocking on my door. My life is so strange. geez. Will I take it? Well I talked to my the guy who would be my boss at this hypothetical job, and he seems to really want me to me my mentor. His name is peter. He has a mustache. He articulated what he thinks my skills are pretty well, and even with a little bit of flattery, which hey, I find exciting. And I like my little non-profit, I'd especially like it if I got to do actual writing there instead of a lot of that administrative junk I was stuck with before. So sure, I'll take it, and maybe I'll even get more money.

I was sort of hoping I'd have a summer vacation to figure out the loads of other things, but I guess I'll have to do that while I'm working. I'm really frightened of not living up to my potential,or worse, not having as much potential as I thought I did. But, hey, aren't we all?

I won't stay away so long next time.
