Ms. McD Rulez

Hey everybody... I know, I know, long time, long time.
I am still student teaching in New York City. Now I'm working in a middle school in a seventh grade ELA classroom. I think, so far, I might prefer 9th grade --- but I still love them. Their work is pretty amazing and their personalities cannot be beat. I also have this kick ass cooperating teacher who is always full of the best advice. I think she and I will actually become friends, which is such an incredible and unexpected sort of relationship to form with someone.

Oh, I moved! I live only about ten minutes away from where I lived before but not only do I live with Nic, again, I live with Adrian too. Last night she made pulled pork and homemade mac and cheese with itty-bitty crumbles of Ritz crackers. Nic and I might be the luckiest roommates ever.

When so much time passes I find it difficult to remember specific, hilarious stories -- but here is one about Phillip. His name isn't actually Phillip, but you'll follow anyway, won’t cha?

Phillip was writing a story when he confessed that the protagonist (NEW WORD!) is actually a representation of himself. Except he said "is me" instead of "a representation of myself" after we talked about how a lot of authors use themselves as a reference for a lot of their characters because we know ourselves the best. He nodded.
"....AND THEN..." he says as he's working on his scene summary "He notices that his brother broke into his room and HIS SAFE IS GONE!!"
I was of course curious, as you are, in what it is exactly that the main character/Phillip keeps in his safe and upon questioning he said,
"Oh you know his really important stuff"
"Uh huh - like what?"
"You know, like his pencils and stuff"
"And stuff?"
"Yeah, like his erasers and... Other pencils."

Phillip has a pencil collection he is very serious about and also is writing a comic book. He checks in with me every day to tell me about. It's called POWER BOY and the hero is Phillip but with a different super power that changes for each issue. What an awesome little dude. He's not my student, but oh, oh, oh I wish he were. Don't you?

Hope you're all well, buddies!

P.S. I've been getting my nails did.
